It is About Time

<p>When Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon forty years ago a lot of people thought "it is about time". The moon is roughly 221,000 miles away from earth. The cost of the spaceship, alone, was $104 billion dollars. Special spacesuits had to be created for the astronauts due the absence of oxygen on the moon's surface. All this, and yet, ordinary men and women are still stretching, reaching, and doing deep knee bends just to be able to cook dinner for their family. These exercises are fine in the gym; not so fine in the kitchen. It is about time we cooks got a break.</p><p>Finally, the science of ergonomics enters the kitchen arena. The science of ergonomics simply means to design the workplace so that each worker can be comfortable while performing his/her job. Any one who spends hours a day in the kitchen will quickly agree "it is about time". Backaches, headaches and hurting feet may finally be a thing of the past.</p><p>Kitchen countertops can now be customized. You can purchase low ones, high ones, or even split height countertops. Each countertop can be specially designed to accommodate food preparation as well as social encounters; (gossiping with the chef). Kitchen floors are now available that give our legs and feet a treat. These new floors sort of bounce when stepped on; thus absorbing the shock that our legs and feet would normally be receiving from a conventional floor. Pull out drawers are now replacing the lower cabinet doors. You know the doors I mean; the ones that you have to do a handstand to find anything that is hidden behind them.
